1.  Have a plan, a timeline and a budget before you start.
2.  Don't expect to have your "dream space" in 3 days.
3.  Look around and see what your key needs are.  Spaces have to be functional as well as pretty.
4.  Look through magazines and decorating books for inspiration, but keep in mind that your space is probably not exactly like thoses photos you see.
5.  Work with a Designer.  It makes your experience so much easier and can actually save you money in the long run.
6.  Understand that you are the one who will live in the space when it's finished.
